Fall for the Very First Time

Kelly Smoak

When I found out we were Michigan-bound, all I could think was FALL. I would get to experience my first Fall (how many times will I say "Fall" in this post?).

Fall is a season meant to be savored. The only glimpses I've seen were on weekend trips to North Georgia. We used to go to Dillard with my Grandma, but the leaves usually all turned by the time we arrived. Never have I ever seen the gradual change.

This year, I've watched as color crept its way, leaf by leaf, tree by tree, until whole forests have changed their color. Trees set ablaze by the season itself.

Some things I've learned during my first Fall:

Surprise! Fall in Michigan is as cold as the coldest days in Georgia's "Winter."

Hats are essential.

Staring matches with deer become a normal occurrence during hikes.

Best part? As someone who wears glasses and could never see leaves from a distance very well, the gradual color change has made each leaf stand out more clearly than ever! Silly, but my vision challenged people will understand my excitement.

Get ready for more Fall blog posts. We haven't even been to the cider mill yet!
